THis snake was playing dead. He did not move as we went by. I did not even see him, nor did the dogs. Erik was behind me and yelled, "Whoa!". He got close enough to get this picture and the snake never moved. An omen signaling that my kundalini yoga and qi gong practice are benign and rather beautiful.

These colors are even more vibrant in reality. This landscape has been painted to death but Erik advised that people love these paintings, especially in the Western States. Maybe I will paint a few now that the Mud Season is just around the corner.

Kitchen Mesa, Ghost Ranch

The name of this hiking trail is Kitchen Mesa in Ghost's Ranch. Appropriately named because we did not see anyone along the way. THat would be unheard of in Colorado or Utah.

Summer's End, New Mexico and Other Things

During Summer, my work ethic goes out the window. The beautiful weather and the extended hours of sunlight make me want to be outside. We just returned from a trip to New Mexico, Albiquiu to be exact, which is otherwise known as Georgia O'Keefe country. We found a perfect little spot on the Chama River to camp. After many trips to Moab, one becomes a little jaded to the beauties of the desert. However, the high desert in New Mexico is not as extreme and in my opinion, even more beautiful than the Utah desert.

As you can see, I give the title according to SEO, so forgive the redundant description. The name of this painting is: Elementals. I was going to call it "The Fire God" but then that would leave out the torso-less dude on the left. It is finally winter and it has dumped at least 2 feet of snow here at our house. We live at 10,200 feet right in the valley of the tallest mountain in Colorado and the 2nd tallest in the continental US. Here is a picture of Jackie Brown, my little Honda Civic, that I drove cross country in the summer of 2006. When I say cross country, I really mean cross country. I drove from Seattle to central Florida. She was such a good car; she is named after the Quentin Tarantino movie and character of the same name. I only drive her in the summer now.

This is our front yard. Lots of snow! WHen we bought this house, there was a doggie grave very close to the front door. We decided to leave it. Now our dog likes to sit on the grave and stare out into the neighborhood. It's like she feels something.

Another day, another painting. Yes, Thanksgiving is over and its back to the grind at the easel. My husband and I had a nice holiday and we were welcomed with snow. I finished this oil painting today and I call it, 'Incredulous' because that is the emotion on the face of the individual to the right. I used quite bold colors of blues, purple, and alzarin crimson. The faces were painted in muted tones of Naples Yellow, Cobalt Blue and Titanium White. This painting is an original, not a reproduction and was painted with oils and acrylics. It is getting cold here in the mountains of Colorado. We live at 10,200 feet and it is below freezing every night. To escape from the inevitable winter temps, we drive 4 hours to the desert in Utah. There it is a beautiful 70+ degrees and we can hike and mountain bike to our hearts content. The desert is filled with unusual botany that we are unused to seeing. Some desert flowers present themselves for viewing. They are incredibly luscious and varied in their colors. The current painting is one where I try to capture their beauty in oil paints. Faces in the Rock

We went camping in Moab these past few days. We were right on the Colorado river and as you can see, these images were in the rock wall. Can you find the faces? My husband and I were speculating that these faces are the spirits of the ancestors of Moab forming to watch over it. One of the faces looks like a Hindu god with all of the profiles turning away. There is also a picture of Erik with some scruff as we were ruffin' it.

Coming across an old Picasso book, I had forgotten how much I love his work - the cubist style being my favorite. Thus, I have started some paintings in the cubist style. My first work is "The Parents" in various shades of green. I love the deep three dimensional feeling and dramatic use of shadow that cubism evokes. Keeping with the an expressionism, cubism allows for abstraction but still gives the viewer a frame of reference.

Living in the highest incorporated town in the United States gives a person access to much mountain wildlife. Foxes and deer regularly visit my yard. Case in point the picture will show you. If I stand very still, they will look straight at me but not be afraid and run off. If I move just a little bit, they will bolt. "Deer by the Garden" is a dip into the pool of representational cubism a la Picasso. A blue mood overcame me at the time I was painting it, so I went with this feeling, thus the blues and greens. Depth in oil painting is very important to me as well as some creative abstraction. Comments are welcome! Thank you and enjoy!

I was going to call this "Death by Poison" as the woman underground is dead and she is dreaming of her death. The berries on the tree represent the poison. However, I thought this too morbid, so I changed the title of this oil painting. This artwork is a style that I want to experiment with a lot more. THe gallery that represents me in Frisco, Colorado, The Columbine Gallery, urges me to paint more landscapes. But the beautiful landscapes and mountains that surround me do not inspire me to paint them. Just to gawk is sufficient. I'm inspired more to paint what is in my head and play around with surrealism and the abstract. Nature does like to creep into the surrealist artwork, but not as the main theme. I love nature and often become inspired by it. When painting landscapes, I like a little realism with some fantasy mixed in as well. Trees are fascinating for me and I love painting them with clean lines and a little bit of art deco shadow. I finished this painting about 3 weeks ago and am very happy with it. Purple and yellows evoke an almost sensual experience for the eye.
